The world's biggest crypto exchange Binance don suffer the biggest crypto theft in history.
On Thursday night, October 29, 2026, hackers drained an estimated $6.3 billion from Binance hot wallets in just 20 minutes. The attack started around 20:05 UTC and spread across 10 blockchains.
According to Binance, the hackers stole Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, USDC and other tokens. The coins were moved in one big burst to wallets controlled by the attackers.
Blockchain security firms TRM Labs and Chainalysis don link the attack with high confidence to North Korean hacker group called TraderTraitor, the same group wey hack Bybit for $1.5 billion last year.
Binance first talk say a DevOps engineer laptop was compromised, wey allow attacker submit unauthorized withdrawal requests. Later dem say investigation don uncover additional breach points. But dem talk say no private key was leaked.
Good news be say, Binance don arrange over $6.34 billion from company reserves and SAFU fund to cover all user losses. Dem talk say user funds are safe and no customer balance go be affected.
So far, partners like Tether and Circle don freeze about $3 billion of the stolen stablecoins, making them unspendable. The remaining $3.3 billion still dey under investigation with FBI and other law enforcement.
Because of the hack, Bitcoin fell to $76,368 and Ethereum dropped to $2,178, and Binance don pause withdrawals for 48 hours while dem dey do full security overhaul.
Founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) also post for X say "User funds are safe" but e look like a real hack.
