Don't Look Down On Someone Unless You Want To Help Them

We all have that moment when we feel better than someone else. Maybe because we have small money, a better phone, or a good job.

But the truth is, life can change in one day.

I learned this last year in Lagos. I was working at a small shop in Rumuokwuta Village. One man used to come every day to beg for ₦200 to eat. I used to look down on him and sometimes ignore him.

One day, I lost my job. I had no money for transport. I trekked from Rumuokwuta to Rumuola because I could not afford bus. I was hungry and tired. A guy I didn't know bought me water and gave me ₦500. He did not know me, but he helped me.

That day I understood what it means to look down on someone only to help them.

*1. Nobody knows tomorrow*

The person you laugh at today can be your helper tomorrow. The cleaner in your office today can become manager tomorrow. The student you call dull can become your boss later. Life turns.

In Nigeria today, many graduates are riding okada, not because they are lazy, but because there is no job. Don't use someone's present condition to judge their future.

*2. Helping others helps you too*

When you help someone, you feel peace. It doesn't have to be money. You can help with advice, with encouragement, or by sharing an opportunity.

For example, if you know how to earn small money online like Hawkit or Lodpost, teach your friend instead of laughing at him for being broke. If you know how to buy USDT on Bybit, show him. That small help can change his life.

*3. Respect is free*

You don't need money to respect people. Greet your gateman. Say thank you to the bus conductor. Listen when someone is talking, even if they don't have money.

People remember how you made them feel, not how much money you had.

*My lesson:*

Since that day in port Harcourt, I made a rule for myself: If I look down on someone, it should only be to pull them up. If I cannot help, I will not mock.

We are all struggling in this country. The price of rice is high, transport is high, data is high. The least we can do is to be kind to each other.

If you are reading this and you are going through hard time, don't give up. Your time will come. And if you are doing well, remember to help someone today.
