Symbiotic nutrition

An association between two organisms of different species may involve exchange of nourishment. This type of nutrition is referred to as symbiotic nutrition and such mode of interrelationship is called symbiosis.

An example of such symbiotic nutrition is found in lichen which includes a green algae that obtain water and minerals salt from a fungus

Which in turn utilize part of the food manufactured by the alga. Another example is found in the interrelationship between some nitrogen fixing bacteria and leguminous plant.

E g. Soya-beans.the bacteria live in nodules on the roots of the higher plant.the bacteria provide nitrates for the higher plant and at the same time obtain manufactured food from the higher plant
