The Message at 2:13 A.M.

Daniel was never afraid of the dark.

At least, that was what he always told people.

He lived alone in a small apartment on the outskirts of town. His job kept him busy during the day, and most nights he spent watching movies or scrolling through his phone until sleep finally arrived.

But one Tuesday night changed everything.

It was 2:13 a.m. when his phone vibrated.

A message.

Daniel reached for the phone without opening his eyes. He expected an ordinary notification, perhaps from a group chat.

Instead, he saw a name that made his heart sink.

Michael.

His best friend.

The same Michael who had disappeared three years earlier.

The same Michael whose disappearance had never been explained.

Daniel sat upright.

He opened the message.

Daniel, are you awake?

For several seconds, he simply stared at the screen.

Then he typed:

Who is this?

The reply came almost immediately.

It's me. Michael.

Daniel's hands began to tremble.

He wanted to believe it was a prank. Perhaps someone had obtained Michael's old number and was trying to frighten him.

But then another message appeared.

Do you remember the promise we made beside the old bridge?

Daniel stopped breathing for a moment.

Nobody else knew about that promise.

Nobody.

The Promise

Three years earlier, Daniel and Michael had been inseparable.

They attended the same school, shared secrets and often spent evenings walking around their neighbourhood.

One night, they visited an abandoned bridge outside town. Michael had been unusually quiet.

Before they left, he made Daniel promise something.

"If anything strange happens to me," Michael had said, "don't believe the first person who tells you what happened."

Daniel had laughed.

"What is that supposed to mean?"

Michael never explained.

A few days later, he disappeared.

The police searched for him. His family appealed for information. Friends were questioned.

But Michael was never found.

Eventually, people stopped talking about him.

Daniel never did.

Now, three years later, someone was sending messages from Michael's number.

And they knew about the bridge.

The Second Message

Daniel typed another question.

Where are you?

The response took nearly a minute.

I'm somewhere you promised never to visit again.

Daniel immediately understood.

The abandoned house near the old bridge.

He remembered it clearly. It had broken windows, a rusty gate and a reputation that made children avoid the area.

He had never entered it.

Michael had once dared him to go inside, but Daniel refused.

Another message appeared.

Come alone.

Daniel looked at the time.

2:19 a.m.

He considered calling the police, but what exactly would he tell them? That his missing friend had sent him a mysterious message?

Then his phone vibrated again.

You have to know what happened.

Daniel stared at the screen.

He knew something was wrong.

But curiosity was already winning.

The Photograph

A new notification appeared.

It was a photograph.

Daniel opened it.

The picture showed his apartment building from outside.

The angle was strange, as if someone had taken it from across the street.

He zoomed in.

There was a person standing near the entrance.

The figure was wearing the same blue jacket Michael had worn on the night he disappeared.

Daniel immediately moved away from the window.

Another message arrived.

You still keep the photograph, don't you?

Daniel looked towards his desk.

Inside the top drawer was an old photograph of him and Michael standing beside the abandoned bridge.

He had not shown it to anyone in years.

His phone rang.

Michael's name appeared on the screen.

Daniel hesitated before answering.

"Hello?"

For a few seconds, there was only silence.

Then a familiar voice whispered:

"Daniel?"

It sounded exactly like Michael.

"Where are you?" Daniel asked.

The voice answered:

"Look behind the photograph."

The call ended.

What Was Behind the Photograph?

Daniel walked slowly towards his desk.

He opened the drawer and removed the old photograph.

At first, he noticed nothing unusual.

Then he turned it over.

There was writing on the back.

A sentence he had never seen before.

"If you receive my message, don't trust the person who comes looking for you."

Daniel read it twice.

Suddenly, someone knocked on his apartment door.

Three slow knocks.

He froze.

"Daniel?" a familiar voice called from the other side.

It was Michael.

Daniel's phone vibrated.

A final message appeared.

Whatever happens, don't open the door.

The knocking stopped.

For several seconds, the apartment was completely silent.

Then the voice outside spoke again.

"Daniel, I know you're there. Please open the door."

Daniel looked at his phone.

Another message arrived.

I'm not outside your apartment.

His blood ran cold.

He slowly turned towards the dark hallway behind him.

The final message appeared.

I'm still inside.

Daniel dropped the phone.

The screen went black.

And from somewhere inside the apartment, a voice whispered:

"You finally received my message."

The End... Or Is It?

The next morning, Daniel's apartment was found empty.

His phone was lying on the floor, still switched on.

There was one unread message.

It had arrived at exactly 2:13 a.m.

It read:

Thank you for keeping your promise.

Nobody ever found Daniel.

And three years later, another person received a message from Michael's old number.

It contained only five words:

"Are you awake? I need you."
