Everyone’s acting like japa is the only way to win. But for some people, staying and building here makes more sense. I’ve got friends abroad doing well. I’ve also got friends struggling with rent, cold, and jobs that pay less than what they made back home after conversion. The money math isn’t always mathing. Here’s the truth nobody says: *1. Cost of living abroad eats most of it.* $3k/month sounds big until rent, tax, and transport take 70%. Some Lagos/Abuja hustles leave you with more cash in hand. *2. Your skills might pay better here.* If you’re in tech, content, or run a small business, the earning vs cost ratio in Nigeria is wild right now. *3. You don’t need to leave to earn global money.* Remote work, AI, and fintech mean Nigerians are getting paid by US/UK clients from Enugu, Port Harcourt, everywhere. I’m not anti-japa. If you’ve got the plan, go. But don’t leave just because everyone else is.
