Hi all beautiful ladies, I am Tegan-Skye . I am 22 years old.
I honestly never thought that i would be writing a post like this, but I could really use some advice and support.
Hi beautiful ladies!🌸
A few weeks ago, I had a routine Pap smear with my gynaecologist, and the results showed abnormal cells on my cervix. Because my mom is BRCA1 positive and has undergone a double mastectomy and full hysterectomy, I was referred by my GP for BRCA1 genetic testing.
During my appointment, my doctor also performed a routine breast examination and found a lump in my left breast. I was referred for a mammogram and breast ultrasound. Since I am only 22 years old and i am currently breastfeeding my four months old daughter, I asked if I could just have the ultrasound first.
After i had taken the ultrasound test, the radiologist wanted to repeat the scan himself before deciding to also perform a mammogram.
After reviewing all of the images with a colleague, he phoned me later that day and asked how much longer I planned to breastfeed.
He explained to me that the next step is for me to have a breast MRI, after which they will have to decide how to proceed on me.
At this stage, because i am breastfeeding, it could still be a number of different things, and I am trying to stay hopeful while waiting for answers.
Unfortunately, my medical aid has declined to cover both the BRCA1 genetic test and the MRI, leaving me with costs I simply can not even be able to afford right now.
Has anyone been through something similar while breastfeeding? I would really appreciate to hear your experiences. If anyone also know of organisations, funding options, or ways to help cover the cost of these investigations, I would be so grateful.
Please keep me and my little family in your prayers while we navigate this uncertainty. ❤️
