Chelsea secured a massive 2-0 away win against Everton today at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, ending Everton's unbeaten run this season in the Premier League Matchday 7.
Portuguese star Pedro Neto was the hero with two goals. He opened scoring just 43 seconds after second half started with a low finish past Jordan Pickford after brilliant assist from Jorrel Hato. The goal came from quick counter attack after Everton lost ball in midfield. Neto calmly slotted home to silence home crowd.
He added second in the 90th minute plus 11 minutes added time after Jordan Henderson delivered perfect free-kick. Neto was unmarked at far post and tapped in. This is his second double of the season and now has 6 goals in 7 games.
But the win came with bad news for Chelsea fans. New goalkeeper Emi Martinez who joined from Aston Villa this summer suffered serious head injury after nasty clash with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite in 78th minute. Both players jumped for high ball but heads collided heavily. Martinez fell immediately and medical team rushed in.
He was stretchered off after 11 minutes treatment and taken to hospital in ambulance. Coach Xabi Alonso who replaced Enzo Maresca this season confirmed after match that he left stadium conscious and is doing precautionary tests. "As far as I know, he left the stadium conscious. Right now he's in hospital doing tests, let's see," Alonso said.
Young keeper Mike Penders, 21 years old from Belgium, came in for his Premier League debut and helped Chelsea keep their first clean sheet in 9 months - ending 22 games without clean sheet. Fans praised his confidence.
Neto dedicated win to Martinez after match. He said "This win is for him. We are really pleased but shame for Emi. We hope he is okay."
With this win, Chelsea move into Premier League top 4 with 13 points from 7 games, above Everton who drop to 6th. Chelsea next face Newcastle at home.
