Do not speak any kind of discouraging words to stage four metastatic cancer patients to this level

TO ALL FRONTLINE STAFF: Please really  stop telling the patient that he or she can not  be treated or cured or remedied , and he or she will die very soon. Disregard the type of illness or the degree of its progression, you do not have the right to take away his will to live happily his last days and the slightest chance to get cured. We as family members are doing all we can to encourage the patient to focus on treatment and on living a quality life. Yet you screw up our work! Every time after visiting the hospital, we left in complete silence as we are overwhelmed with sadness. How I wish we have the right to demand you all to shut your nasty mouth!

A few days ago we went to the Radiology Design and Planning Dept. The young fellow who spoke to us said the tumour in the patient's head is not cancer therefore no radiology is needed. We welcomed the good news and asked about the follow up on the tumour though it may be benign. He said nothing will be done for the time being cos "anyway you will go due to the cancer faster than because of the tumour in the brain". You won't be able to imagine how much I really wanted to go and slam his face. We left feeling fallen into the black hole where we are totally incapable to escape.

Stop using the same old idiotic excuse that "patient has the right to know the facts." The issue lies on how well you present the facts and whether it is really needed for you to repeatedly emphasize this so call "facts", making each visit to the hospital a reminder of the fast approaching death!

Take the visit to the Radiology Design and Planning Dept as an example, all this young fellow has to convey is "the current priority is to treat the cancer. We may deal with the tumour at a very late stage (though we know that stage may never come)", instead of reminding the patient he is dying very fast. It is entirely not his job and out of the point of discussion to declare the death sentence of a patient.

Be a human and live with compassion and empathy!
