Elliot Macdonald

A young father who discovered he had less than a year to live after suddenly losing the ability to write his own name has defiantly declared he refuses to accept his "story is over." 😭❤️

Elliot Macdonald, a 35-year-old floor tiler from Barnstaple, North Devon, initially assumed the growing discomfort and stiffness in his hand was just a consequence of his physically demanding trade.

However, his sister Lauren—a doctor who is currently battling Stage 4 melanoma herself—spotted the warning signs and urged him to get an immediate scan. Two days later, a CT scan revealed a catastrophic reality: Elliot had Glioblastoma, an incredibly aggressive, fast-growing form of brain cancer that carries an average survival time of just 12 to 18 months.

Following the diagnosis just four weeks ago, Elliot underwent open brain surgery, which was quickly followed by a post-op seizure that forced doctors to perform a second operation.

Medics bluntly told him he could have as little as 10 months left, but Elliot refused to accept defeat for the sake of his wife, Erica, and their two young children, five-year-old Aluna and one-year-old Ocie.

Elliot made a devastatingly honest admission about the psychological weight of the diagnosis on his family, confessing: "I may surprise people by saying this, but one of the things I said to the doctor was that I wish I never had children. You think about them growing up without a father... It breaks your heart knowing what it will do to your family."

Determined to rewrite his prognosis, an "army" of over 80 close friends and family formed a massive WhatsApp network to push Elliot’s story globally on social media under the handle @elliotscancerjourney. The response was unprecedented, raising a staggering £160,000 via GoFundMe in just four days.

The life-changing funds mean Elliot can bypass the limited options on the under-pressure NHS and seek cutting-edge, personalized treatments abroad. He is currently weighing up advanced options at specialized German clinics like CeGat and IOZK, which offer personalized tumor vaccines and custom immunotherapy starting at around £80,000. Through his page, Elliot even connected with a Glioblastoma survivor who underwent the German treatment and is still thriving ten years later.

As he prepares for the fight of his life, Elliot is calling on the government to drastically increase funding for Glioblastoma research🙏.
