Following God's way requires faith, obedience, and love. Here are a few biblically-based methods for following God's path.
Seek God Diligently: One must diligently seek God in order to follow His way. Psalm 119:2 in the Bible states, "Happy are those who obey his testimonies, and who seek him with all their hearts." This means making an effort to develop a relationship with God via prayer, reading and reflecting on His Word, and spending time in community with other Christians.
Obey His Commandments: Obedience to God's commandments is essential for walking in His path. In Deuteronomy 5:33, it is written, "You shall walk in all the way that the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may go well with you." Following God's commandments demonstrates our love for Him and aligns us with His will.
Have faith in the Lord: Following God's path requires having faith in His knowledge and direction. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding," is what Proverbs 3:5–6 counsels. Recognize him in all of your endeavors, and he will make your pathways straight." It shows faith and dependence on God as the sovereign when one trusts His plan even in the face of uncertainty.
Serve Others: Giving back to the community is a concrete way that we can show God's love and obedience. The apostle Paul states, "Brothers, you were called to freedom" in Galatians 5:13. Just serve one another out of love and do not use your freedom as a means of satisfying your lusts for material gain." Serving others is a reflection of Christ's selfless compassion and humility.
Stroll in Humility: Following God's path requires humility. According to Micah 6:8, "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" Being humble enables us to acknowledge our reliance on God and surrender to His will rather than our own.
Be Persistent in Your Faith: Following God's way frequently calls for enduring hardships and obstacles. "Run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith," is what Hebrews 12:1-2 exhorts Christians to do. Faith that endures shows confidence in God's omnipotence and His commitment to see us through every hardship.
As obedient followers of Christ, we can walk on the road of God by fervently seeking Him, keeping His commandments, putting our trust in Him, walking in love, helping others, walking in humility, and holding fast to our faith.
