Facing Stage 4 Gastric Cancer & Malignant Bowel Obstruction (MBO)

Facing Stage 4 Gastric Cancer & Malignant Bowel Obstruction (MBO)—Looking for experiences, advice, or hope.

I am feeling completely lost, terrified, and heartbroken right now, and could really use some insight or shared experiences from anyone who has been through this.

My husband (55) has stage 4 gastric cancer with metastasis. We have been in the hospital for 43 days. He walked into this hospital, but after just one round of chemo, he developed a malignant bowel obstruction (MBO) and is now completely bedbound. He cannot eat or drink, and his weight has plummeted from 170 to 146 lbs in just a few months. I had to fight fiercely to get him started on TPN (total parenteral nutrition).

The oncology team has now discontinued all active cancer treatments and is strongly pushing for inpatient hospice, giving him only a week or two left to live. We have a young child, and I am struggling to understand or accept how hospice is our only option right now.

Has anyone here dealt with a malignant bowel obstruction under similar circumstances? Were there any interventions that brought your loved one a more comfortable time, or is hospice truly the safest path when things reach this point?

I am so hurt and scared. Any guidance, honesty, or words of support would mean the world to our family right now.
