Hi - Are there any Glioblastoma/stroke people in here who have continued to live longer then expected and is there any helpful information on that?
It’s been a horrible couple of days. My mom is 81 years old and had resection surgery with Glio-wafers put in. We were on her routine chemo, she was doing awesome, she was even still babysitting her 7 year old granddaughter (not mine) and then three nights ago she called me, frantic, unable to feel her legs. I rushed to her house, called 911 and then they triaged it wrong, we waited for a very long time before AMR got there, they clearly were not in any hurry as they sat in their ambulance for some time, slowly got out, I rushed them upstairs to my mom who had started to slur her speech and I told them that I thought my mom was having a stroke. The AMR guys looked at me and told me absolutely not that they were 100% sure she was not having a stoke. About one minute later I hear one of them go “oh are you getting a cramp? She’s is getting a cramp so we should adjust her.” As they maneuvered her to get her into a different position she let out a noise I will never forget and I looked over and she was convulsing until they got her flat on the floor where she became unresponsive. It was then that the AMR guys said “oh, she is having a stroke” but the AMR guys didn’t bring the medicine with them that stopped a stroke so he had to run back downstairs to get it from the truck. We got rushed to the hospital.
At the hospital things went very fast. They told us we have to get the blood clot out of your moms brain and you do not have time to say goodbye, she was still completely unresponsive, she had the clot removed and got transported to a different hospital. She spent two days in a coma, We are on day 4, she is doing okay but is very confused, today she thought her nurse that helped her go to the bathroom was a priest, but she doesn’t want to be in the hospital and she started to have hallucinations last night so they called me in the middle of the night, I had to rush up and convince her there were no chipmunks in the room or the hallway, that there was not a man watching her sleep, that she was on the 6th floor and there was no sidewalk next to her bed, the day prior was fine, she is discouraged and keeps asking me to just let her go. She is actually recovering great so far minus the hallucinations and after the coma. I just want to give her some inspiration. Glioblastoma is hard and this just gave us a very big set back. Anyone else? This has been a horrible journey.
