Haemoglobin Genotype

Genotype is genetic make up of your haemoglobin. It is hereditary and couple could have idea of what the genotype of their children probably could be.

Genotype could be determined correctly after six months of life because at birth foetal haemoglobin dominates. At birth foetal haemoglobin dominates but after six months it would have reduced to insignificant level. If it does not go down after six months,it will serve as protection for a child with sickle cell disease

If a person who has haemoglobin genotype AA married another person with genotype AA:all their children will be AA

If a person with haemoglobin genotype AS married another person haemoglobin genotype AS:there is probability that 25% of their children will be AA,50% AS and 25% SS

If a person with haemoglobin genotype AA marries another person with haemoglobin genotype SS:all their children will be AS

But if a person with haemoglobin genotype AS married another person with haemoglobin SS:there is probability 50% of their children will be AS and 50% SS

If a person with haemoglobin genotype SS marries another person with haemoglobin genotype SS:all their children will be SS

The same applies to haemoglobin genotype C if it replaces haemoglobin genotype S

Abnormal haemoglobin genotype could be eradicated over time if you marry the right person. If you marry the right person there will be economic, emotional and all round benefits.

Marry the right person today and prevent sickle cell disease in the future
