The country's security situation reached a new low earlier this week when troops attached to the Guards Brigade were attacked on their way from Bwari, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Not only did the terrorists succeed in carrying out their deadly act, but some officers paid the ultimate price, instilling fear among Nigerians, particularly those living in the FCT.
This comes on the heels of the country's security situation deteriorating. So tragic is the situation that the same week, Senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, gave President Muhammadu Buhari a six-week deadline to address the scourge, failing which they will initiate impeachment proceedings against him.
Despite the legitimate criticisms leveled at the Commander-in-Chief, the Presidency stated that Buhari has gone above and beyond in terms of morale, material, equipment, and general support for the military.
Speaking on the country's sorry state of insecurity, Hon. Yakubu Umar Barde, a member of the House of Representatives, said that people in his constituency live in fear of bandits who kill and maim for fun almost every day.
