My Late Father Lost All His Earnings When Buhari Changed The National Currency In 1983 -Trader

As the citizens of Nigeria continue to face the toil of hardship as a result of the redesign of some naira notes, a trader, in Dada village in Zurmi Local Government, Muhammadu Isa, has revealed how his late father lost all his money when Buhari changed the national currency during his tenure as Nigeria president in 1983.

It can be recalled that the CBN governor Godwin Emefiele earlier announced that the old currency ceased to be a legal tender at the end of January. He, however, extended the duration after meeting with the national assembly.

Meanwhile, despite the development, the new currency has been hard to find.

Muhammadu Isa in an interview with Punch Newspaper, disclosed that he stopped selling grains in the Nigerian currency after the new CBN’s policy on new naira notes was revealed.

According to him, he does not want to fall victim after witnessing what happened to his late father in 1983.

He said his late father suffered huge losses like his father when the policy was made by Buhari several years ago.

He told punchng.com that he sold only to those who possessed CFAs to avoid losing money as ‘’his father did in 1983 when the naira notes were quickly changed by Muhammadu Buhari regime.’’ punchng.com quoted the trader as saying.
