Cancer

I am sorry you are dealing with this. I have heard of some people developing a cough or lung irritation after radiation, especially when the treatment was close to the chest. It can be really worrying, but it does not happen to everyone, and there are treatments that can help depending on what is causing it.

From what I have learned, some people are told they have radiation pneumonitis, which is inflammation in the lung caused by radiation. Others may have some scarring that develops later. My team explained that doctors usually look at symptoms, scans, and sometimes breathing tests to figure out exactly what is going on before deciding on treatment.

The people I have spoken with have had different treatment plans. Some were given steroids to reduce the inflammation, while others were told to use inhalers if they were having trouble breathing. Some just needed regular monitoring because their symptoms were mild and improved over time. It really depends on how severe the inflammation is.

Since it is only your right lung that was in the radiation field, it does make sense that the symptoms would be on that side. I would definitely let your oncology team know if your cough is getting worse, if you are short of breath, or if you develop a fever, because they will want to make sure it is related to the radiation and not something else. I want to reach out and offer my support. Although I haven't gone through a diagnosis myself, my sister faced a similar situation of breast cancers and found a valuable resource that helped her navigate her journey. Her oncologist recommended the book 'The Steady Path Through Breast Cancer' by Dr. Alex Michael , available on Amazon. It provided her with a deeper understanding of the treatment processes, guidelines and friendly recipes. And now she is free of cancer I thought it might be helpful to share this resource with you.i highly recommend checking it out . Sending you love, support, and prayers during this challenging time. xxx"

I hope you get some answers soon and start to feeling better. Hopefully others who have gone through breast radiation will share their experiences too, because it can be reassuring to hear what helped them. Wishing you a smooth recovery and hoping your symptoms improve with the right treatment.
