Hi everyone. 💗
My name is Serena, and I wanted to introduce myself and say thank you for welcoming me into this community.
I’m a breast cancer survivor, and like many of you, I know that cancer changes so much more than your physical health. It can bring fear, uncertainty, grief, changes in your relationships, your confidence, your body, your identity, and your plans for the future. Even after treatment ends, the emotional impact often doesn’t.
When I was going through treatment, I saw how important emotional support was. But what surprised me most was how much I needed that support after treatment. So much had changed, yet it felt like the world expected me to simply move on because I was “done.” I was still trying to process everything I had been through while figuring out who I was after cancer.
That experience is what inspired me to become a mental health counsellor.
Today, I have the privilege of supporting adults across Canada who are navigating breast cancer at any stage—whether you’re newly diagnosed, in active treatment, living with metastatic breast cancer, adjusting to life after treatment, or navigating survivorship. I also support spouses, partners, caregivers, and adult family members, because cancer impacts everyone who loves someone going through it.
My hope is simply to offer a compassionate, non-judgmental space where people can be honest about how they’re really doing, feel heard, and not have to carry everything on their own. I offer virtual counselling because I know treatment schedules, fatigue, transportation, work, and caregiving responsibilities can make accessing support one more thing to manage.
Thank you to the amazing people in this group and for the support you’ve shown me. It’s felt like a full circle. Wishing each of you strength, hope, and moments of peace wherever you are in your journey.
