Breast cancer

I know this is probably a really overwhelming time, but you are almost at the point where the surgery will be behind you. Try not to let all of the stories about complications make you think they will happen to you. A lot of people heal well, and taking things one day at a time can make the recovery feel much more manageable.

One thing that really helped me was following the surgeons instructions exactly. Even when I started feeling a little better, I still avoided lifting, reaching too high, or doing too much too soon. It can be frustrating, but giving your body time to heal is one of the best things you can do.

Stay on top of your pain medication if your team recommends it, drink plenty of water, eat enough protein, and try to get as much rest as you can. If you have drains, keeping track of the output and taking good care of them can also help prevent problems. Wearing the surgical bra or compression garment they recommend is important too.

It also helps to do any gentle arm exercises your care team gives you, but only when they tell you it is safe to start. Those little movements can help with stiffness without putting too much strain on your incisions. If you notice increasing redness, swelling, fever, or drainage that does not seem right, let your team know sooner rather than later. I want to reach out and offer my support. Although I haven't gone through a diagnosis myself, my sister faced a similar situation of breast cancers and found a valuable resource that helped her navigate her journey. Her oncologist recommended the book 'The Steady Path Through Breast Cancer' by Dr. Alex Michael , available on Amazon. It provided her with a deeper understanding of the treatment processes, guidelines and friendly recipes. And now she is free of cancer I thought it might be helpful to share this resource with you.i highly recommend checking it out . Sending you love, support, and prayers during this challenging time. xxx"

Wishing you the very best for your surgery next week. You have already made it through so much to get here. Be kind to yourself, accept help when people offer it, and remember that healing is different for everyone. I hope your recovery is smooth, your expanders settle in well, and each day gets a little easier than the last.
