Before cancer, my blood test results were all normal.
So I always felt very healthy.
I used to think,
Cancer was far away from me.
I was young then.
I only thought about making money.
I thought I should work hard first,
and then rest after I made money.
I'd live life properly later when I had more time.
Later I realized that
life had unknowingly become a constant waiting game.
Waiting to be happy when I had money.
Waiting to relax after I succeeded.
But over the years,
I discovered that my body doesn't wait at all.
Those years as a flight attendant,
not sleeping well,
eating irregularly,
being stressed,
and getting used to controlling my emotions—these seemingly ordinary little things slowly became a burden on my body.
At first, it was just:
not sleeping well.
cold hands and feet.
stiff and aching body.
still tired after waking up.
Because it was so ordinary, I always thought:
It's okay.
Everyone's like this.
Until my body actually started having problems,
I realized it had been warning me for years. Later, I learned something.
Many people believe:
Happiness comes only with money.
Relaxation is only possible with success.
Resting is only worthwhile after achieving results.
But if happiness must wait for the outcome,
then most of life is spent waiting.
Because the outcome is only a moment,
while the process can take years.
Why should we only allow ourselves happiness when we achieve results?
My biggest lesson over the years isn't making more money.
It's learning to stop.
Learning to feel.
Learning to take care of my body.
Learning to tell myself:
You don't need a reason to have fun.
You don't need a reason to get love.
You don't need a reason to call for a stop.
Because when health is compromised,
other worries really do seem smaller.
We can have a million worries.
But when health is compromised,
often only one worry remains.
I hope that you, the reader, while striving for your dreams, won't forget to take care of the body that has been with you all this way. ❤️ I'm May, a former flight attendant.
I've been doing this exercise consistently for the past 5 years of cancer recovery.
