Diagnosed with Stage 1 or 2 HER2-positive / hormone receptor-negative breast cancer?
While it can sound terrifying, today's statistics are vastly different from 15-20 years ago.
Modern targeted therapies, especially HER2-directed treatment, have dramatically improved survival outcomes.
Here's what the data shows:
For Stage 1
HER2-positive / hormone-negative breast cancer: 5-year survival rates are typically over 90%, with recurrence rates often around 5-10% (depending on tumor size, lymph node status, and treatment response).
For Stage 2 HER2-positive / hormone-negative breast cancer: 5-year survival rates are commonly 85-90%, and recurrence risks are approximately 15-20%, especially if lymph nodes are involved.
HER2-targeted therapy has been one of the biggest advancements in breast cancer treatment. Before these medications, HER2-positive cancers were considered some of the most aggressive. Now, many patients achieve excellent long-term outcomes.
Remember, these statistics describe groups of patients, not your individual future. Your response to treatment, tumor biology, lymph node status, and overall health are all important.
