Today, Mr. Mak summarized his talk on "Treating and Fighting Cancer" (My Views on Cancer). As mentioned above, the human body has three lines of defense in the immune system. During my battle with malignant tumors, my first line of defense involved minimizing exposure to colds, flu, fevers, and other illnesses. In public places, I would avoid anyone who sneezed. I once experienced this: while eating breakfast, a Taiwanese customer at my table sneezed without covering their mouth and nose; I immediately paid and left, refusing to eat the leftovers. My second line of defense involved avoiding excessive consumption of fried foods and alcoholic beverages, as well as excessive protein intake. Everyone knows protein is important, but Mr. Mak believes it's not the same as nutrition. The definition of nutrition includes six elements: (1) water, (2) vitamins, (3) fiber, (4) fat, (5) protein, and (6) carbohydrates. The third line of defense involves strengthening the five internal organs: heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys. I did two hours of aerobic exercise every morning and evening to enhance my cardiopulmonary function. I maintain a regular sleep schedule and avoid foods and drinks that damage the liver. I eat more foods that promote spleen health and never drink or eat frozen drinks (note: frozen drinks can damage the spleen). Regarding the kidneys, I believe it's essential to maintain an ideal diet and lifestyle, and to avoid high blood pressure and diabetes (note: I am now 77 years old and do not have high blood pressure or diabetes; I can still clearly see the license plate number of a car in front of me within 23 meters, and as a result, my doctor approved that I can get my driver's license for another three years until 2024, for which I am very grateful). During my battle with malignant tumors, I often did aerobic exercise. So what is anaerobic exercise? According to experts, if our body tissues exercise in a hypoxic state, it will cause our body to consume a large amount of oxygen. If the blood oxygen provided by the heart cannot meet the needs of the body tissues, it can easily lead to sudden death on the street. Simply put: if after a period of anaerobic exercise you cannot speak a complete sentence or phrase continuously, that is anaerobic exercise. During his battle with malignant cancer, Mr. Mak chose dietary therapy, strictly regulated his sleep schedule, focused on spending more time on aerobic exercise, and maintained a happy and joyful lifestyle. He also made time for virtuous deeds (Note: So Man-fung said, "virtuous deeds" are good deeds, representing quietly helping others without expecting anything in return). As a result, Mr. Mak overcame both his mental illness and malignant cancer within two years. His final blood test showed his cancer markers were close to zero. In 2013, during a follow-up appointment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital's oncology department, the doctor advised that he no longer needed further oncology checkups. Queen Elizabeth Hospital had been providing follow-up care for him for a full 12 years. I am deeply grateful.
