Common side effects on tamoxifen
Not everyone experiences these, and many women have only mild symptoms.
Tamoxifen:
* Hot flushes and night sweats
* Mood changes
* Vaginal dryness or discharge
* Irregular periods (if premenopausal)
* Tiredness
* Small increased risk of blood clots
* Small increased risk of uterine cancer (mainly after menopause)
Aromatase inhibitors:
* Joint and muscle aches (very common)
* Stiffness, especially in the morning
* Hot flushes
* Vaginal dryness
* Tiredness
* Bone thinning (osteoporosis), which is why doctors often monitor bone density
* Higher risk of fractures over time
I’ve been reading about hormone blockers that are often recommended after surgery for hormone-positive breast cancer, and to be honest, I’m feeling a little overwhelmed.
The list of possible side effects—joint pain, hot flushes, fatigue, bone loss, mood changes, and others—has me worried. I know these medications can significantly reduce the risk of the cancer coming back, but I’m also concerned about my long-term quality of life.
I’m trying to learn as much as I can before making any decisions. Has anyone had a positive experience with hormone blockers? Were the side effects manageable?
I’m also interested in evidence-based ways to support my health naturally through nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle alongside my medical care. If you’ve found approaches that helped you feel stronger during treatment, I’d love to hear your experience.
This journey certainly comes with a lot of big decisions, and I’m taking it one step at a time. 💗
