Cancer not stop our daily lives

One of the biggest misconceptions about cancer is that the hardest day is the day you’re diagnosed.

It isn’t.

Don’t get me wrong, hearing the words, “You have cancer,” changes your life forever.

But after that?

Life doesn’t stop.

Your alarm still goes off.

The dog still needs to be fed.

The bills still need to be paid.

Your kids still need you.

Your job still expects you to show up if you’re able.

You still have to decide what’s for dinner.

That’s the part I never expected.

I thought cancer would feel like one long emergency.

Instead, it became part of my ordinary life.

There are treatment days, scan days, good days, really hard days, and then there are Tuesdays where I’m folding laundry and wondering if I remembered to thaw the chicken.

Cancer doesn’t pause life.

It weaves itself into it.

I think that’s one of the hardest things for people on the outside to understand. They imagine life is divided into “before cancer” and “after cancer,” when in reality, most of us are just trying to figure out how to keep living while cancer rides in the passenger seat.

If you’ve ever lived with cancer or loved someone who has, what surprised you the most about what life actually looked like afterward?
