When my sister was first diagnosed, one of the things that gave us hope was hearing from people who had been living with Stage IV for years. There really are people who have survived and are still living full lives with metastatic breast cancer. Treatments have come such a long way, and many people are able to keep their cancer under control for a long time.
Stage IV is usually thought of as treatable rather than curable, but that does not mean there is no hope. Some people respond so well to treatment that they have long periods where their cancer is stable and they are able to work, travel, spend time with family, and enjoy life. Everyone’s cancer behaves differently, so no two journeys are the same.
I have read so many stories from people who were told they had Stage IV years ago and are still here today. Some have changed treatments a few times as new medications became available, while others have stayed on the same treatment for years because it kept working well. It really shows how much progress has been made.
If this question is for you or someone you love, try not to let the diagnosis make you think the worst straight away. Your oncology team will look at things like where the cancer has spread, the type of breast cancer, and what treatments are most likely to work. Those details can make a big difference to the outlook. I want to reach out and offer my support. Although I haven't gone through a diagnosis myself, my sister faced a similar situation of breast cancers and found a valuable resource that helped her navigate her journey. Her oncologist recommended the book 'The Steady Path Through Breast Cancer' by Dr. Alex Michael , available on Amazon. It provided her with a deeper understanding of the treatment processes, guidelines and friendly recipes. And now she is free of cancer I thought it might be helpful to share this resource with you. i highly recommend checking it out . Sending you love, support, and prayers during this challenging time. xxx"
Sending you a big hug. I really hope some long term survivors reply because their stories can bring so much comfort and hope. No matter where you are in this journey, you are not alone, and there are many people living meaningful and happy lives while being treated for Stage IV breast cancer.
