The nutritional benefits of okra and ewedu soup

COMPARING AND CONTRASTING OKRA AND EWEDU

I know the heading is quite confusing but I'd first center on the high cost of living especially in Lagos who has noticed the hike in food commodities recently

The prices of commodities have all spiralled out of control it's no longer news a bag of the local Ogbono costs approximately 150,000 naira that is if a buyer can bargain thoroughly all these is  as a result of surge in flooding, seasonal  and other determinant factors. For instance I called a friend residing in Bayelsa State recently and he told me a bulb of Onion sells for #120 this is an aberation from the norm and buyers have to accede to the whims of the sellers. The festive season is fast approaching and only heaven knows how much what a bag of rice will cost or should we dissect how expensive a paint of Atarodo(scotch bonnet)/Shombo (cayenne pepper)is?

Here is a break down of price listing of various commodities

1. A full bag of foreign rice is approximately #35,000 the local ofada rice with all the impurities sells for about 30,000

2. A bag of garri that was about #11,000 a couple of months ago is now #16,000

ASUU has called off its 8-months old strike and we all know Garri is a staple diet of most Nigerian students

3. Egusi that I used to relish on eating a whole bag cost about 160,000 naira

Let's move on quickly

This high cost of commodities invariably affects the traders themselves and even the buyers talk about factoring in your scale of preference which comes in handy during this extremely difficult time when the nation is insolvent and on the verge of recession one's purchasing power has got to be in tandem with the current state of things.

How pathetic that a nation once known for its agricultural prowess has sunk so low to rock bottom

So what is the next alternative than to consider other substitute and this infact draws this write-up to a close substitute to Ogbono which is Okra and Awedu right in the writeup below I noted a few benefits in consuming both

1. It functions as a form of diuretic

That is it helps the body detoxify itself naturally and helps you shed excess bodily weight

2. As I've noted in the video it aids digestion so those suffering from peptic ulcers can benefit from this.

3. Okra also helps to rejuvenate the skin and it gives it this soft texture

4. Ewedu otherwise known as the JUTE plant reduces the risk of developing cataracts because it helps the eyesight especially when it's prepared alongside locust beans otherwise known as ''iru''

5. Okro seeds can be mashed into powdery form and applied on the hair to promote hair growth

6. Ewedu helps to prevent kidney diseases and even asthma because it energises the respiratory tract
