President Tinubu, Sokoto, and the 2027 Campaign Flag-Off: What Actually Happened
*Date: October 24, 2026 - Warri*
There is a lot of fake news going around today saying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had a stroke in Sokoto yesterday. *That is NOT true.*
Here is what actually happened:
*1. No Stroke - President Tinubu is Healthy*
As of today October 24, 2026, there is no official report from the Presidency, Ministry of Health, or any credible news outlet that President Tinubu had a stroke.
The stroke rumor is an old rumor that came back in September 2026 when the President was on a 30-day working vacation in Europe. When he returned to Lagos on September 29, he addressed it himself:
> "I'm healthy, ready to work. There's nothing wrong. Rumour will always be emanating from politics, but the facts remain I'm here. Healthy, sound and ready to go." b436
Today he was active in Kaduna for his campaign launch. No medical emergency was reported.
*2. What Happened Yesterday Related to Sokoto?*
Yesterday was not a rally in Sokoto. The main event was the *APC North-West Campaign Flag-Off in Kaduna*.
What connects Sokoto to yesterday:
- *Sokoto Governor was there:* Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto was one of the seven North-West governors who received the APC flag for his re-election bid at the Kaduna rally.
- *Sokoto Commissioner spoke:* The Sokoto Commissioner for Energy, Hon. Sanusi Ibrahim Umar, told journalists in Kaduna that Sokoto is targeting millions of votes for Tinubu and that security and medical teams were in place for the rally.
- *Sokoto Roads Highlighted:* The Presidency listed progress on roads in Sokoto: The 120km Sokoto section of the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway is 60% complete.
- *Sultan of Sokoto Meeting:* Two days ago (Thursday), President Tinubu met the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III, at the Villa. The Sultan called for peaceful campaigns. 46395317a290599a
*3. What Happened Today - Campaign Launch*
Today Saturday October 24, President Tinubu officially flagged off his 2027 re-election campaign in Kaduna, not Sokoto. At the rally, he blamed Atiku and Peter Obi for past economic hardship and said his reforms are working. ba4f
His campaign schedule shows he WILL visit Sokoto soon - Sokoto is among the 12 states he will personally attend, but that rally has not happened yet.
