You can’t imagine the devastating effects of tobacco For our poor heart.

By examining heart scans of smokers and non-smokers, Danish researchers have found that the effects of tobacco may be worse than speculated.

It is no secret that smoking has a very negative effect on the heart condition of those who have this habit.

To the point that the World Health Organization blames him for 8 million deaths worldwide each year.

Yet, according to a study by Futura-Sciences.com, the impact of tobacco use could be even more tragic than previously thought.

A group of Danish researchers has produced a study to be presented at the annual congress of the European Society of Cardiology in Barcelona, in which they compared heart scans of smokers and non-smokers.

And the results are worrisome. “We found that current smoking and the accumulation of packet years [the number of cigarettes smoked over a lifetime] were associated with a deterioration in the structure and function of the left heart chamber, the most important part of the heart.”, detailed Dr Holt, who led the study.

In addition to cardiovascular diseases, already well identified by science, this new research establishes that smoking changes the structure of the heart and its functioning. “In addition, we found that over a 10-year period, people who continued to smoke developed a thicker, heavier, weaker heart - less able to pump blood - compared to people who have never smoked and those who have stopped smoking during this period,” Hold said of his team’s work.

If you were still looking for a reason to quit smoking, then you are served. And for good reason, no sport or breath activity will be able to correct the upheavals of this vital organ due to smoking.
