This article examines the current legal, jurisprudential and social status of the death penalty in modern legal systems. Its exposes the incongruence of the death penalty in modern legal systems vis-a-vis the renewed emphasis on the value for human life by the United Nations Human Rights, human rights lawyers and Activists all over the world and goes on to conclude that the need for the abolition of the death penalty in modern legal systems cannot be overemphasized!
