Cooking gas price climbs 71.23% to N6,996.03 – NBS

In June 2024, the average price to refill a 5kg LPG cylinder surged by 71.23% year-on-year to N6,996.03, up from N4,068.26 in June 2023. However, it decreased by 6.10% from N7,418.45 in May 2024. The cost of 1kg of gas rose by 9.1% to N1,200, and a 12kg cylinder now costs N15,000. 

 

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report indicates that Osun state had the highest 5kg cylinder price at N7,800, followed by Edo at N7,750 and Ebonyi at N7,590.79. The lowest prices were in Yobe, Jigawa, and Anambra at N6,062.50, N6,144.44, and N6,338.75, respectively. The South-West had the highest regional average price at N7,241.67, while the North-West had the lowest at N6,660.20.

 

For a 12.5kg LPG cylinder, the price increased by 0.70% month-on-month to N15,736.27 and by 72.49% year-on-year from N9,123.25. Cross River, Kaduna, and Abia had the highest prices, whereas Bauchi had the lowest. In household kerosene, the average price rose by 27.73% year-on-year to N1,555.11 per litre, with Kaduna having the highest and Kebbi the lowest price.
