Delta State University was established on 30th April,1992, by the civilian Executive Governor of the state Olorogun Felix O. Ibru,the first executive governor of delta state. It was announced that the university would take off with five facilities, namely;
1.Education
2.agriculture
3.Art
4.science and the social science.
Besides Abraka campus, there would be the Anwai campus. While four of the university faculties were to be located at Abraka the fifth, the faculty of Agriculture, would be at the Anwai campus.the faculties were established accordingly and are in full operation with 54 departments and offering 54 degree courses.
