Development of new organisms
Development of new organisms starts with fertilization, when a sperm unites with an ovum to form a diploid zygote. The zygote transforms into an embroy - an organisms in the early stages of development, beginning with the first mitotic division of the zygote. through cell division, cell growth, cell migration, cell differentiation and programmed cell death (of unwanted tissue), the embryo grows and develops into a new organism. The course of development of embryo is influenced by the reproductive strategy of the organism concerned.
In flowering plants, the embryo becomes enclosed in a seed which remains dormant for period before germinating and growing into a new organism.
