DOING RIGHT

Discipline is doing the right thing at the right time at the right place in the right manner. It includes public stuff like traffic rules, recreational things like rules of games and even personal stuff like eating right and knocking when we want to use the washroom. And discipline brings order in society. Think, for instance, how society would be like if we never had traffic rules.

The sad thing is our attitude to discipline. Many of us hate discipline because it means doing the right thing even when it is not convenient for US. Because of this, many of us tend to do the right thing when there is someone – or something, as is the case with CCTV – watching us. In the absence of that, we litter the streets with reckless abandon, go past the roundabouts from the wrong end and ignore the traffic lights.

Remember, it is always right to do right. Even when no one is watching, do right. Religion teaches that God keeps watch from a distance. And according to Orwell, Big Brother is always watching you. Always do right.
