Obi donated the money to Enugu Secondary School during a visit on Thursday. He said education is the most important investment Nigeria can make for its future. He said if Nigeria invests in education, the country can reduce poverty and insecurity.
According to Obi, the 20 million naira will be used to build new classrooms, buy books, and provide learning materials for students. He said he has been going around the country donating to schools and hospitals as part of his commitment to nation building.
The students and teachers of the school were very happy and thanked Obi for his kindness. The school principal said the donation will help improve learning in the school which has been struggling with lack of facilities.
Peter Obi has been known for donating to schools and hospitals since he left office as Governor. His supporters, called Obidients, praised him on social media saying he is the only politician who cares about education.
Critics however said Obi is using donations to campaign for 2027. They said he should also support the current government instead of just donating.
Obi said he will continue to support education whether he is in government or not, because education is the foundation of development.
Do you think other politicians should copy Peter Obi's style of donating to schools?
