The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) issued the warning after a meeting with government representatives at the Federal Ministry of Labour in Abuja on Thursday, October 22 ended in deadlock.
In a statement signed by NLC Acting General Secretary Benson Upah and TUC Secretary-General Nuhu Toro, labour said the government delegation came unprepared and without necessary mandates to negotiate. aad0
THE SIX DEMANDS
1. Fuel Price Cut: Reduce petrol price from as high as N1,429 per litre in some areas back to 2024 levels when N70,000 minimum wage was signed
2. New Minimum Wage: Fresh negotiations for upward review of N70,000 minimum wage
3. Tax Relief: Implement agreed tax relief measures for workers
4. JOHESU Agreement: Implement February 5, 2026 settlement with Joint Health Sector Unions
5. Public Sector Allowances ; Pay peculiar allowances, wage awards and hazard allowances demanded by Joint Public Service Negotiating Council
6. Health Workers Welfare.
The Minister of Labour asked for adjournment till Tuesday, October 27 to assemble relevant ministers and heads of agencies.
NLC has already directed affiliates, state councils and civil society allies to begin mobilising for possible action from October 27. They said if no meaningful progress is made, the relevant organs will decide next line of action.
Labour urged workers to remain calm while awaiting outcome.
Do you think Tinubu will reduce fuel price? Many Nigerians are struggling with N1,429 per litre.
