Since 1999, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been organizing nationwide strikes that have kept Nigerian students at home.
Many students' hopes have been dashed by the ASUU action, which is frequently the result of the federal government's failure to meet certain demands. This has caused a lack of confidence in the educational system and reduced the number of students who choose to enroll in private tertiary institutions.
