Many people think you must be on Fiverr or Upwork before you can get ghostwriting clients. That's not true. I have never gotten a client from Fiverr.

I also get ghostwriting clients outside those platforms and I will show you how I do it.

1. FACEBOOK GROUPS

This is where I got my first client. Search on Facebook for "ghostwriting jobs", "freelance writers needed", "fiction writers group" or "GoodNovel writers". Join like 5 to 10 active groups.

Don't just join and post "I need job". No one will answer you. What you do is check the group daily. Clients post there every day like "I need a romance writer for 20k words". Comment fast and send them a message with 2 samples of your work.

If you have no samples, write 2 chapters of 800 words each on Google Docs and use it as your portfolio.

2. LINKEDIN

Create a LinkedIn account and write on your profile "Ghostwriter | Fiction Writer | Romance and Billionaire Stories". Then start connecting with small business owners, CEOs, coaches. These are the people that need someone to write their life story or business book.

Send them a short message. Don't beg. Just say "Hello sir, I help busy entrepreneurs write their books. If you have a book idea you have not had time to write, I can help you ghostwrite it. I have samples if you want to see."

Out of 20 people, 2 or 3 will reply.

3. WHATSAPP STATUS AND GROUPS

Post your work on your WhatsApp status. Not every day, maybe 2 times a week. Write something like "Just finished 5000 words for a client, 15k more to go" or "New billionaire story now on NovelUP".

Your friends will start asking you "You write for people? Can you help me write my story?" That's how referral starts.

Also join WhatsApp writing groups. People share clients there when they are busy.

4. REFERRAL FROM OLD CLIENTS

This is the best one. If you do a good job for one client, tell him "Sir, if you know anyone that needs a writer, you can refer me". Many clients know other people that need writers.

I got 2 clients from one client referral like this. I did not have to look for them.

HOW I TALK TO CLIENTS SO THEY PAY ME

Before I start any job, I collect 30% to 50% upfront. I don't write first and collect later. I learned that the hard way.

I tell the client "My rate is $5 per 1000 words. For 10k words that's $50. You pay $20 first, I deliver first 5000 words, you pay balance before I send the rest."

If client says "write first, I will pay when I sell the book", it's a scam. Don't do it.

Fiverr and Upwork are very competitive for beginners and now they ask you to pay for clicks to get seen. Start with Facebook groups and referrals. That's where beginners get clients fast.

This are what worked for me.

If you are just starting, focus on one niche. Don't tell client you write everything. Tell them "I specialize in romance and billionaire stories". People trust specialist more than general writer.
