My name is Jessica, 31, from Ohio. My husband Michael, 35, has been working at a big company for 8 years. His boss is a woman named Karen, 45. Very rich, very powerful.
For the last 6 months, Michael has been acting strange. He comes home late, he is always tired, and we have no money left. He said his company cut his salary.
Last Wednesday, I left work early at 2 PM because I had a terrible migraine. I came home quietly. I didn't want to wake Michael if he was sleeping.
When I opened the door, I heard a woman's voice from the basement. And Michael's voice too. Laughing.
My heart started beating fast. I thought my husband was cheating on me.
I slowly walked down to the basement. And what I saw... I will never forget.
There was a bed. A small fridge. A closet full of women's expensive clothes. And sitting on the bed was Karen, my husband's boss, in pajamas, eating cereal and watching MY TV.
I screamed "WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE?"
Michael turned white. He said "Jessica, please, let me explain!"
Karen stood up and said something that froze my blood. She said "Oh, you must be Jessica. Michael told me you agreed that I could live here. He said you owed him."
What? Agreed? Owed him? I never agreed to anything!
Michael finally confessed. 6 months ago, he made a huge mistake at work. He lost the company $50,000. Karen said she would not fire him if he let her live in our house for free. Because she was getting a divorce and didn't want her husband to find her. And she also made Michael give her his entire paycheck every month as "rent for keeping his job."
So for 3 months, his boss has been secretly living in MY basement, eating MY food, while my husband gave her all our money and lied to me that his salary was cut.
I was shaking. I looked at Karen and said "Get out of my house right now."
She laughed and said "I have a contract. Your husband signed it. I can stay here for 12 months. Call a lawyer if you want."
That was when I called the police.
The police came and said the contract was illegal. Because Michael doesn't own the house alone - I am also on the deed. You cannot rent a house you don't fully own without your wife's permission.
They escorted Karen out that same night. She was screaming that we would both lose our jobs.
Michael lost his job the next day anyway. He begged me not to divorce him. He said he was scared to lose his job and didn't know what to do.
I told him "You were scared to lose your job, but you were not scared to lose your wife and your home?"
I filed for divorce yesterday. I changed the basement into a gym for myself. Best decision ever.
