My Husband Secretly Rented Out Our House On Airbnb While I Was Visiting My Mom - I Came Home And Found Strangers Living In My Bedroom

My name is Rachel, 29, from California. I have been married to Tom, 31, for 4 years. We own a 3-bedroom house.

Two weeks ago, I went to visit my mom in Arizona because she was sick. I was supposed to stay for 3 weeks. Tom said "Take your time, don't worry about the house, I will take care of everything. I miss you already."

We talked on video call every night. He was always in the living room. He never showed me the bedroom or kitchen. I thought it was weird but I didn't think much.

I decided to surprise him. I came home 1 week early. I didn't tell him. I wanted to cook his favorite dinner.

I opened the door with my key. And I heard people talking. Laughing. In MY kitchen.

I thought Tom had friends over. I shouted "Honey, I'm home!"

A little kid, maybe 6 years old, ran out from MY bedroom and said "Mommy, who is this lady?"

A woman came out. A total stranger. She said "Who are you? Why are you in our Airbnb?"

My heart stopped. Our Airbnb? THIS IS MY HOUSE!

I said "This is MY house, who are YOU?"

Then Tom came out from the backyard. When he saw me, he dropped his phone. He was white.

The stranger woman said "We paid $2,000 for 2 weeks to rent this whole house on Airbnb. This man is our host."

I looked at Tom. I said "Tom, what is she talking about?"

He started sweating. He said "Rachel, I can explain. We needed money."

It turned out, while I was gone for just ONE WEEK, Tom listed our entire house on Airbnb for $200 per night. He moved to his friend's couch and rented out OUR house, OUR bed, OUR kitchen to strangers. He made $4,000 in one week.

Strangers have been sleeping in my bed. Using my toothbrush holder. Cooking in my kitchen. Wearing my slippers. For a week!

And the worst part? He showed the strangers my wedding photos on the wall and said "My wife is dead, that's why I'm renting her house." DEAD! He told them I was DEAD so they wouldn't ask questions!

The family had to leave. They were so embarrassed. They asked for a refund. Tom had to refund them $1,000 from the $4,000.

I kicked Tom out that same night. I said "You told strangers I am dead to make $4,000? You let strangers sleep in our bed where we... you know?"

He said "We had credit card debt, I didn't want to worry you."

I said "So you pimped out our HOUSE?"

He is now living with his mom. I changed all the locks. I bleached the entire house, bought a new mattress, and I listed the house on Airbnb MYSELF. I made $6,000 last month alone. And I didn't tell him.

He called me crying yesterday "Rachel, can I get half of the Airbnb money? It was my idea."

I said "Sure, you can get half of the money you get when you tell people your wife is dead. Oh wait, that's $0. Because you are divorced now."
