I WAS COMPELLED TO GIVE A BRIBE

"You must pay that amount to the officers before you will get that Paper" the short skinny massinger said and at the same time searching my papers in the file.

I am officially due for that paper for almost seven years now and applied for it more than ten times. However, it was requested by senior officers at various situations of verification.

Even with the papers handy one will only be free from excessive request and instructions from high-level personnel. But the actualisation or implementation of that paper could be like inviting two poles of North and South to colluded with each other.

To become a head teacher for primary school, to works in three phases: political godfatherism, your ability to bribe you way in, and lastly keep on sending returns to management system.

Despite being poor in regards to their package, primary teachers are not in advantage position of enjoying promotion, annual increment or any workers entitlement.

As being attached to Local government, local level teacher were put in the pockets of the chairmen. The Nagerian Union of Teachers (NUT) were only active in deduction for their union due at the end of the month.

The essence of initiating pressure or interest group is to receive a protection and safety nets whenever one falls down. But the NUT were always conniving with authorities to jeopardise teachers.

Teachers nowadays were highly marginalised, and when they talk about it nothing will happen. Local teachers were the bedrocks upon which every developmental plan constructed upon.

Imagine for more than seven years I am applying to have a paper of notification but in vain; while in less than thirty minutes after five hundred naira exchanged hands the paper was ready and in my hand.

I started imagining how huge the corruption penetrate into lucrative sectors of Nigeria. If the workers whose difference between 18 thousand minimum wage to thirty thousand is two thousand five hundred Naira were compelled to give out bribe or corruption then no where to run or to hide.
