Miyazaki confessed to her crimes after her arrest, and police initially suspected Kita was an accomplice, but Kitano's lawyer insisted that "although Miyazaki and Kitano talked about funding, Kitano didn't know about her kidnapping and killing," plus evidence in the police's hands that showed the whole thing was the work of Miyazaki alone. Eventually, Miyazaki was sentenced to death, and Hiro Kitano was acquitted.

Although Nagano himself participated in the kidnapping and dumping of the body, the murder was actually Hoshino Kitano. Unfortunately, the testimony was not accepted.
