Jonathan Pettigrew, 41, was fatally shot on a Bronx MTA bus on June 8, 2026, after what police say began as a dispute over a loud cellphone conversation.

A father of seven, Jonathan was on his way to pick up his 7-year-old daughter—the child he had sole custody of—when his life was cut short. After being shot, he managed to get off the bus before collapsing on the sidewalk. He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

His family says Jonathan was a loving father, a funny and caring man who loved sports and music. He had recently landed a catering job and moved into a new apartment after living in a homeless shelter, determined to give his daughter a stable life after overcoming hardship.

Now, seven children are left without their father because of a moment that should have never turned deadly.

A little girl waited for her dad to come pick her up that day. He never arrived.
