fifty four stab wounds!
Thirty seven stab wounds to the abdomen, seventeen stab slits to the neck—she crawled towards the road, clutching her entrails.
How strong can a person's will to live be?
On December 18, 1994, a young woman suffered 54 stab wounds, her neck almost severed, her intestines spilling out.
Yet, she stubbornly refused to die.
Driven by a determination for revenge, she supported her swaying head, clutching her dislodged organs, and crawled step by step to the roadside, completing an almost impossible act of self-rescue.
Later, she not only brought the murderer to prison but also became an inspirational speaker, changing the lives of millions.
The woman in this case was named Allison Dorothy Bossa, born in 1967 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, and was 27 years old at the time of the incident.
She was an outstanding student, kind and helpful, and very popular.
On the night of December 17, 1994, she hosted a party at her home.
After the party ended at midnight the next day, she drove her friends home, not returning to her own house until 1:15 a.m.
Just as she was about to open the door, a blond man suddenly rushed in with a knife, holding it to her neck.
Allison calmly said, "You can take the car and the money."
But the man said it was not a robbery, he just needed a company.
He tied Allison up, then picked Allison up with another tall, thin man, and took her to a secluded forest, where they took turns assaulting her.
After the assault, the blond man said, "If we take you back to the city now, you'll definitely call the police."
He asked his companion, "What does Satan want us to do with her?"
His companion replied, "Kill her."
Their eyes instantly turned fierce.
The blond man first tried to strangle her, then, failing, stabbed her in the abdomen thirty seven times.
Allison was in a bloody mess.
The two thugs, realizing she was still alive, decided to slit her throat.
The blond man then slashed her neck 17 more times, almost severing it.
He kicked Allison a few times, and after confirming she was not moving, said, "No one can survive this."
He then drove away.
But Allison was actually conscious; she had only been feigning death.
After the assailants had gone, she struggled to move, looking at her mangled body, yet stubbornly refusing to close her eyes, for she hated them and wanted those two beasts to pay.
Because the killers thought she was dead, they spoke without restraint, calling each other by name:
the blond man was Frans, the tall, thin man was Terns.
Allison, enduring excruciating pain, scribbled the killers' names on the ground, leaving a final message:
"Mom, I love you."
She hoped the police would help her avenge herself.
Then she collapsed in a pool of blood.
Just then, a car headlight flashed by, and she realized there was a road nearby.
Her survival instinct kicked in.
She realized her neck was almost broken, her head was unsteady, and her intestines were spilling out.
Most people would have collapsed at this sight, but Allison was instead filled with fighting spirit, vowing in her heart:
"Even if I am doomed, I'll say the killer's name before I die."
She clutched her wounded neck with one hand and supported her internal organs with the other, desperately crawling towards the road.
Every step was excruciating, but she gritted her teeth and persevered.
Finally, with astonishing willpower, she crawled to the roadside, where she collapsed from exhaustion.
It was past 2 a.m., and there were few cars on the remote road.
But she was incredibly lucky; a few minutes later, a car passed by.
The driver, Tian Ellerd, saw Allison, completely naked, with her intestines protruding and her neck crooked.
Thinking she was a monster, he hesitated for a long time before approaching.
Upon discovering she was an injured woman, he immediately provided first aid.
Tian was a veterinarian, but his first aid was excellent, especially his skillful manipulation of her protruding thyroid gland, which was a life-saving act.
He called for an ambulance, which arrived three quarters of time (forty five minutes later) and took Allison to the hospital.
The doctors, seeing her covered in blood, initially thought her chances of survival were zero percent without any more hope.
However, after examination, they were astonished to discover that all thirty seven stab wounds to her abdomen had perfectly avoided vital organs such as the heart, liver, spleen, stomach, and kidneys;
more than ten of the wounds were less than one millimeter from the edge of internal organs;
her intestines were covered in mud but showed no infection;
and the 17 stab wounds to her neck had not damaged the carotid artery.
A total of 54 stab wounds had all avoided vital organs!
After a night of emergency treatment, she was out of danger that same day—a miracle.
Upon waking, Allison, believing she was dying, immediately asked the medical staff for paper and pen.
Despite being connected to numerous tubes, she wrote down the killer's name, appearance, and the details of the crime—writing a revenge petition with her life.
Based on the description, the police quickly identified the perpetrators:
Frans Dutoit and Terns Kruger,
both repeat offenders who had assaulted a twenty one years old pregnant woman two weeks prior while on parole.
Frans came from a wealthy family; his father was a veteran police officer, which allowed them to be released on bail.
However, instead of repenting, they attempted to escape punishment by silencing her.
During interrogation, they showed no remorse, even laughing and claiming they did not know each other.
They only confessed in shock upon learning Allison was still alive.
In August 1995, the judge deemed them extremely dangerous and their methods brutal, sentencing them to life imprisonment.
They were dissatisfied, even telling their fellow inmates, "We should have cut off her head," and claiming Allison's soul was dead because she suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.
But Allison's resilience was beyond imagination.
Within months, she emerged from the shadow of her trauma and decided to transform her story into an inspirational force.
With the help of the local media, she published books such as *I Own Life*, traveled extensively giving speeches, and introduced the "ABC Rule" (Attitude, Belief, Choice), becoming an outstanding motivational speaker.
During this time, she met her future husband, Digne Bossa, whom she married in February 1997.
They subsequently had two sons, Daniel and Matthew.
Doctors had initially believed that her severe abdominal injury would make it difficult for her to conceive, but she once again created a miracle.
Even more coincidentally, the doctor who delivered her babies was none other than Tian, the veterinarian who had saved her years before.
Tian had become an obstetrician after that emergency treatment, completing a remarkable cycle from savior to witness to life.
After becoming a mother, Allison did not stop speaking, with her husband always supporting her.
She traveled to 35 countries, and her famous quote, "Life doesn't own us, we own life," inspired countless people, even comforting many wounded souls during the 9/11 attacks in the United States.
However, the two murderers in prison shamelessly wrote to her demanding royalties and speaking fees, claiming that half of her success was due to them.
The court surprisingly granted them parole on July 4, 2023.
Allison felt a chill run down her spine, fearing they would demand money or even commit further violence after their release, and immediately petitioned the court to revoke the parole.
Fans worldwide also wrote letters to pressure the court, which ultimately overturned the parole.
But one crisis followed another.
In September 2024, Allison suddenly collapsed at home and was diagnosed with a ruptured cerebral aneurysm.
At 58, she once again demonstrated astonishing willpower, surviving multiple brain surgeries and quickly learning to walk and talk again.
She once again proved that life does not own us, but we own life.
Although we will never see her inspiring speeches again, her story will live on forever, inspiring us to move forward.
Never give up hope, and never give up on yourself.
Even when facing death, the next second could very well be the beginning of a new life.
