Food is one of the basic needs of life, every living creature needs food for survival. Food is any nutritious substance gotten from plant and animal sources that is taken and absorbed to sustain life. Just like the saying goes “we eat to live”. It plays fundamental role in life sustainability through enhancing growth, development, immunity, longevity and serves as the fuel for energy. Notwithstanding the favorable score that food plays in sustaining life, it can also lead to harmful effect or disastrous consequences when consumed wrongly.
Food supplies chemical substances also known as nutrients, each nutrients has it distinctive role it plays in the body system although they work connectively to sustain health and life.
In our present world a lot of factors has influenced the way we humans consume food; Religious and culture Conceptions, peer and societal pressure, fashion trends, illiteracy or lack of valuable information, economic challenges, inflation, availability of food produce and paved way for people to eat base on survival and also encourage bad eating pattern, and this has resulted to impede longevity and health diseases.
Healthy eating; it so sad that a lot of people have a misconception about this notion “healthy eating or eating healthy”. Some feel its all about eating sugary or spice foods, junks (baked snacks foods), becoming a vegetarian, eating larger quantity of food and lots more, but this concept is not about this at all. Healthy eating is rather, consuming a meal that comprises of all six classes of nutrients in the right proportion and making this pattern a habit. Each nutrient has it's unique role or functions. The CARBOHYDRATE supplies energy, PROTEIN enhances growth, FAT serves as a building block of hormones and cell membranes, VITAMINS helps in defense mechanism and immunity, MINERALS helps in keeping the bones, organs and muscles working properly. Lastly, WATER which helps in transportation of other nutrient to target areas where they are needed and also play a huge role in hydration. (All the functions of listed above is just the basic functions of these nutrients but not the least).
The benefit of healthy eating is numerous , it includes longevity, strong immunity, proper functioning of the organs and the muscles and overall health and well being of an individual. It effect on health is very commendable as it encourages the prevention of diseases.
Conclusion: When you eat healthy (adequate diet) you live healthy.
