OVERCOMING MENSTRUAL CRAMPS

Is it a curse to be a female? Menstruation has been and it is one  particular challenge every woman faces (at least from 12years of being a girl child, except for the precocious, to about 45 years) because of the pains that comes with it (cramps). Menstruation is a phase that comes with female puberty (a transition from childhood to adulthood) which start during the adolescent stage of growth.

Menstruation is the monthly shedding of the lining of the female uterus (more commonly known as the womb) which last for some period of days known as “menstrual cycle”  average cycle is 28 days long; however, a cycle can range in length from 21 days to about 35 days. Menstrual cycle duration is  uniquely inclined to every woman’s body nature.

Menstruation is also known by the terms menses or menstrual period. It is accompanied with series of distress when experienced and they includes: moodiness, difficulty in sleeping, food cravings, bloating, fever, cramps and at some point increase sexual urge. But one is the most common and challenging which is MENSTRUAL CRAMPS.

Menstrual Cramps also known as (dysmenorrhea)is a painful contraction felt in the lower abdomen just before or during menstruation. It is the most commonly felt symptom that can be very annoying for some women while some other very painful ranging from mild to severe.

According to medical research is it seen that the most common cause that result to menstrual cramps is the increased level of prostagladins in the uterus (womb).

These are chemicals that the tissues in the uterus produce which further result to muscle contractions of the uterus that can as well be associated to the discomfort (cramps) experienced during menstruation.

However, in as much as there are series of medications, prescriptions that help in curbing menstrual cramp, it is advisable that women especially those in menstruating stage or age should consume health diet especially vegetables, fruits and foods rich in Iron too. List of fruits to consume during Menstruation includes:

•Pineapple: apart from the other vital role the fruit plays. It's role in menstruation is very commendable. Pineapple contains an enzyme known as bromelain which help in combating menstrual pain, encourages blood circulation, as well as regular flow.

•Pawpaw: this fruit helps in normal flow pattern during period as well as cramps prevention, other fruits includes avocado, berries, grape fruits, green apple, banana and lots more proteins rich foods too such as salmon, fish, lean meat, poultry as well as green leafy vegetables and lot of water. Spices too like: Tumeric, Ginger, fennel, cinnamon and peppermint helps too.

In as much as food plays a vital role during menstruation there are food that should be avoided because they can encourage or lead to having severe cramps. It includes: alcohol, coffee, fried snacks or fries, dairy product, carbonated drinks and all processed foods, as in most cases encourages the contractions of the uterine muscles-so more pains.

In conclusion, as each girl child is unique, curbing menstrual cramps at times follows suit; manage with medications as prescribed by your doctor or managing it the natural way with fruits veggies and regulating exacerbating diets, good personal hygiene as well as sanitary pads are essential during your menses.
