Senior Special Assistant to Ondo State Governor on Youth Empowerment and Job Creation, Hon. Engineer Alore Omosuyi, Launch Operation to Clear Waterway Obstructions in Ilaje and Ese Odo Coastal Communities
In a decisive effort to improve waterway transportation and enhance accessibility for riverine communities, the Senior Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Youth Empowerment and Job Creation, Hon. Orioye Benedict Gbayisemore, and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Pipeline Surveillance and Waterways Security, Hon. Engineer Alore Omosuyi, have launched an operation to remove unwanted sticks and other obstructions from the waterways in Ilaje and Ese Odo Local Government Areas of Ondo State.
The initiative, which commenced on Monday, March 24, 2025, aims to eliminate debris, abandoned fish nets, and other obstacles that have hindered smooth navigation for canoe users, fishermen, and traders in the coastal communities.
Speaking on the exercise, Hon. Orioye Benedict Gbayisemore emphasized the importance of maintaining free-flowing waterways to support economic activities and facilitate the daily movement of residents. He encouraged community members to actively participate in keeping their water routes clear.
Similarly, Engineer Alore Omosuyi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring safe and accessible water routes.
"We urge all residents, particularly those in Ilaje and Ese Odo, to help remove unwanted sticks and other objects blocking the waterways. These obstructions disrupt movement and economic activities. Our goal is to ensure a more efficient, safer, and navigable water transport system," Omosuyi stated.
The Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa-led administration remains committed to improving infrastructure and security in Ondo State’s coastal regions. The initiative has been widely welcomed by community leaders and stakeholders, who have pledged their support in keeping the waterways clear and navigable.
With this intervention, the government aims to boost trade, enhance security, and improve water transportation, ensuring safer and more efficient movement for residents in Ilaje and Ese Odo Local Government Areas.
