Introduction
A recent study in South Korea found that 73.5% of university students experience pain, with many reporting four or more painful areas in their bodies. Most relied on over-the-counter medicine, rest, and massage to cope. Beyond physical suffering, pain also interfered with mood and focus.
This tells us something deeper: sensitivity matters. Sensitivity is not only about the body—it also speaks to our emotions, decisions, and spiritual life.
The Bible reminds us in Philippians 2:4:
“Do not look only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
What is Sensitivity?
Sensitivity means the ability to detect, feel, or respond quickly to something—whether physical changes, emotional signals, or spiritual truths. It can be a gift, but if misused, it may also lead us astray.
I. The Wrong Manner of Sensitivity
A) Sensitivity to the Wrong Things Can Lead to Wrong Decisions
Biblical Example: King Solomon (1 Kings 11:2–3, 7–10)
Although Solomon was blessed with wisdom, his sensitivity to the desires of his foreign wives drew him into idol worship. This disobedience angered God and brought destruction into his life.
KATY PERRY AS A CHRISTIAN
KATY PERRY AS SHE REJECTED CHRISTIANITY
Modern Example: Katy Perry
Katy Perry, born in a Christian home, started her career singing gospel music. But as she became sensitive to fame and worldly culture, she drifted away from her faith foundation. While she gained global fame, many Christians view her story as a warning about misplaced sensitivity.
B) Lack of Right Sensitivity Can Damage Life
Biblical Example: Eve (2 Corinthians 11:3, Genesis 3:6–7)
Eve failed to be sensitive to God’s command in Eden. Instead, she listened to the serpent’s deceit, leading to sin entering the world. Misplaced sensitivity destroyed what was meant to be a life of blessing.
II. The Right Sensitivity for the Right Destiny
God designed us with physical and spiritual sensitivity. To live rightly, we need balance.
Physical Sensitivity
The body must care for each part equally (1 Corinthians 12:25). But physical life should always be aligned with spiritual sensitivity.
Romans 8:15–16 reminds us that the Spirit of God testifies that we are His children.
How to Develop the Right Sensitivity
A) Stay United with the Spirit of God
John 4:24 – God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.
B) Train Yourself in Godliness
1 Timothy 4:7–8 – Physical training is valuable, but spiritual training benefits both this life and the next.
