Former IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati Passes Away at 63

Rest in Peace, Wafula Chebukati

Kenya has lost a significant figure in its democratic journey. Former IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati passed away on February 20, 2025, at Nairobi Hospital after a long illness. He was 63 years old.

Chebukati played a crucial role in shaping the country’s electoral process, leading the commission through the 2017 and 2022 elections. His tenure was marked by both challenges and reforms, including the historic annulment of the 2017 presidential election.

Leaders from across the political divide have paid tribute to him, recognizing his dedication and integrity in upholding democracy.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Rest in peace, Chebukati. Your contribution to Kenya’s electoral system will not be forgotten.
