Yesterday, I went out to watch a movie and the only one worth watching was "The Gentlemen".
The movie stars Matthew McConaughey as "Mickey Pearson" the drug lord, Charlie Hunnam as his right-hand man "Raymond" and Hugh Grant as a private investigator "Fletcher". If I want to be honest, the real reason I watched this movie is because of the actors I mentioned above.
The movie talks about how a guy created a drug empire. Then he wished to cash out of business and many buyers came knocking.
The movie started with the investigator blackmailing Raymond for 20 million pounds in order to stay quiet about their whole operation.
What comes after are the events of how Fletcher came to know all what happened.
The way these events were told is unique and I really liked it because it shows how the investigator reasoned and came to conclusions.
The movie also portrayed the power a drug lord can have. Either by inflicting fear into his rivals or those who work for him, and how he can manipulate politicians to be on his side.
I really enjoyed the movie, but let's look at it from a different perspective. For some, it may look like it's a boring movie. It's fast-paced but there isn't really the element of action, maybe on two occasions only if my memory serves me right.
Another thing worth mentioning is that the movie had a budget of only 22 million dollars and secured a roster of great actors. This low budget did affect the movie indirectly, the way I see it that it wasn't properly advertised and promoted, therefore, it's not getting the attention it deserves.
In conclusion, this is a movie inside a movie, I found it to be a nice idea.
Rating: 8.5/10
