On Tuesday night, gunmen attacked the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Center in Abuja with explosives, according to the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), which confirmed the attack on Wednesday.
The NCoS Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO), Mr. Abubakar Umar, acknowledged the attack and added that security forces were attempting to limit further damage.
More than 300 terrorists reportedly took control of the Kuje prison in Abuja for more than 2 hours and 45 minutes while yelling "Allahu Akbar" and using GPMGs, bombs, RPGs, many rifles, and other dangerous automatic weaponry.
150 boko haram terrorists and more than 1,200 prisoners both made it out safely. There were around 1,476 prisoners housed at Kuje Prison, and only 111 of them chose against trying to flee.
Former Taraba State Governor Jolly Nyame, Farouk Lawal, Abba Kyari and four of his officers, Retired AVM, along with 107 other prisoners whose sentences have less than three months left to run their course and some who are innocent of the charges against them, along with a few other deserving Senior Citizens, are among those who chose not to flee.
