Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have apprehended a 27-year-old woman identified as Oluchi Nzemechi, hailing from Uzoagba in Ikeduru LGA of Imo State, on charges of fatally stabbing her husband, Kelechi Nzemechi, aged 31.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation, acknowledging that her involvement in internet fraud, commonly known as ‘yahoo yahoo’, was instigated by her lover.
Okoye detailed that Oluchi admitted to engaging in a heated altercation with her spouse on June 2, allegedly stemming from his failure to share a portion of the proceeds from a purported 250 Million Rupiah scam perpetrated against a victim in Indonesia. In a fit of rage, she purportedly wielded a kitchen knife, fatally injuring her husband in the upper torso.
"The suspect further disclosed her attempt to mask her culpability by inscribing a threatening message on a piece of paper, which she placed upon the lifeless body of the victim before fleeing the scene," Okoye stated. He further revealed that the couple had been cohabitating since 2019 and shared a child.
Efforts are underway to recover the alleged sum of 250 million Indonesia Rupiah, with the aim of returning it to the rightful owner, Okoye affirmed. The suspect is presently undergoing investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department and is slated for arraignment in court.
